reduction of modeling times

Hello, everyone.
in order to reduce modeling times using native files of various software without having to "replicate" the maths, I was wondering if it was possible to read to 3dsmax data from catia v5 or other parametric cads such as nx, solidworks etc... it would be fantastic, even because in this way errors or approximations would be avoided.
If this is possible, are the imported 3dsmax models editable, or are they simple volumes? Besides, is there a format to prefer?
If all this is not possible, what possibilities are there to optimize the times, beyond a thorough knowledge of the system and rendering applications?

Thank you all.

I do not know, if not by name, catia, nx and solidworks so I ask: Are they carrying fbx? "

Is the .igs format okay? at most will give you some problem of multiple surfaces.

you will get a changeable model made of surfaces.

but 3dsmax cares .igs? I don't remember...

It would be even better if it mattered the step.
in general the step is better, but it has the problem to contain entities not editable by the software that work that do not work for feature. for example alias, rhino, 3ds..

ideal is to export to acis, which is the autocad kernel and fully supported by 3dsmax.

thank you so much to all for the suggestions, I have seen that with the iges the results, at least for not too complex things are satisfying.
knowing very well catia v5, I more than halved the modeling time of the same object than 3dmax.
hello and thanks again
