hi to everyone, it is the first time I place here, and I find this forum very interesting for those like me always need and want to learn from experienced people. I am an industrial design student, and I have to make the hull of a boat to give the impression that it is a very old-fashioned Caribbean boat of colombo to understand. Unfortunately the library of flamingo materials does not have a wood suitable to give the effect that I would like, that is, of the beam of the timber, you know how to recommend a site where you can take appropriate mappings or bookcases to import them into the flamingo library, or maybe there is a command that projects me the image on a curved surface like that of a hull? apologize if I do not use the appropriate terms, but I will learn. Among other things, I should also insert a person's silhouette into rendering to give the idea of size, you know where I can find it?
Thank you.

Hello and welcome.
I personally, for renderings, use maxwell. When I started drawing the rhino, but I used flamingo... and unfortunately there are few materials around. if you use maxwell I would have an impressive wooden type library.
I should have some flamingo material. I'm looking for you and I'll let you know.

the projection you want to make you could get with a decal, but orienting it would be very difficult. You could download some of the wood you would like and apply it with the rendering of internal rhino as an environment, but the result would certainly not be comparable to flamingo.

See you soon.

alex

Thank you so much for your answer, I don't know the software you use for rendering but I can try to find it, how does it work? In the sense there amounts the rhino file and then proceed with the rendering ? if you think it is better than flamingo I trust and I see to get it :) the know how to use then are another pair of sleeves ^^ but you can work.

time ago I tried v-ray to make some renderings but I don't remember how complete the libraries were.

It's called maxwell, it's a complete rendering and a little complex to use, but complete with endless bookcases. I take the files from rhino to stl and amount them to maxwell.

If I get it, I'll give you the export settings, so you have very finished files.

there are online sites where you can register to download materials in an almost endless way:
http://resources.maxwellrender.com/visual_catalog.php?t=#page=1
http://www.treddi.com/forum/files/I've got the Italian manual about architecture and lights if it's interested.

There is also v-ray, but I, personally, never found it well.

interesting this program but is it really very complicated?

having no need to make the renderings I had used v-ray more than anything for curiosity but I did not find it so much in fact after little I abandoned it.

no, with few basic settings you can make very good renderings... to make professional renderings ( maxwell is perfectly capable), it takes a little knowledge on the subject. .

then alex, I managed to get the software and plug in for rhino. I looked a little online and it looks like it makes really beautiful renderings, knowing how to use it of course. I noticed the complexity.. I tried a bit to "seat" without having to import the files from rhino to maxwell studio because I set it as rendering software instead of flamingo. The only thing is that it takes me hours to make a rendering..of course not knowing how to use it I didn't probably set the right things, but also applying a material was not very easy. If you give me the settings you do me a favor, probably, I have to import the file from rhino to maxwell studio to be able to multiply the materials and make a decent rendering...I don't know, some advice? thank you for now for the advice, you are very kind :)

Hello, I have a liubreria of materials that includes a few thousand voices. I don't use the rhino plug, but the dedicated program maxwell studio and maxwell render, but I think the plug in has the same potential.

I have no idea, though, as I am ignorant, and you don't, I prefer to use your method. if when you have time explain the basic steps to apply the materials and make renderings that do not put us 11 hours save me ^_^

It's normal that maxwell make hours and hours for renders, since it is a physically accurate engine, called unbiased, that replicates the real physics of light, without any interpolation such as vray and flamingo, so the parameters are very reduced, it works like a camera, frames and do "photo", the result is perfect, but it employs a lot. you need a texture to use with the engine to make that you usually use, and apply it to the material.

but in fact I have seen online that makes beautiful renderings, the problem is that if I need to do tests to see more or less how it comes and if it's okay, I can't wait so long and then find out that maybe the chosen texture is not the best. Ultimately, do you advise me to continue with flamingo which is simpler and immediate? even if the difference is seen. the problem of texture, is that I can't find what I would need... although in fact to use maxwell I should be behind to learn to use it, and I don't have a lot of time available to uff.

continue with what you can use better, the textures the tovi online, after all they are jpeg that loads on the material.

Hi.
You are perfectly right, but with basic settings you can get good renderings with a 30-minute process of average. Annex ). It's a very simple thing, but it does well what will be the finished faith. I use it for my job.

When I have to make diamonds, time can take 90 minutes, no more.

If you don't need a background picture, extra lights and everything else, maxwell can offer a great compromise.

Of course, if we talk about design objects, I don't know if annina takes care of design or architecture, for architectures other than 30 minutes, scenes are always very complex and big. However to quality is a guarantee without setting dozens of parameters, this is certain. :

I don't really like the verb you used... getting."... considering that the demo version is no longer available on the maxwell website.

I would like to remind everyone that any reference to "cracked" or illegal software is forbidden on this forum... but I'm sure that's not the case... really?
