Good morning to all
are undecided whether to buy rhinoceros or viacad, the purpose of the cad for which it will be used
will be for mechanical design and reverse engineer, mainly I cover for car mirrors
but sometimes it happens to draw also small pieces and equipment for the workshop.

Thank you.

Hi.

for reverse rhinoceros offers good tools, many use it for that type of work.
However, it is necessary to learn how to use it well and know the limits to do a good job.

viacad I don't know him, I found a single site on the net in French and I barely understand.
It seems strange that it costs so little, not even 200 euros make me think of a "game".
Unless I saw a wrong page.

Thank you for your answer,
the price of the pro version with the advanced module is on 600€ the mastering site is thishttp://www.masterviacad.com/powerpackoverview/ppvideos/ppvideos.htmlhttp://www.sharkfx.it/content/viacad-prohttp://www.punchcad.com/p-44-punch-viacad-pro-10rhino seems limited to me as a mechanical cad but more directed to modeling, I accept advice

rhino is not limited to mechanics, it is precisely denied:biggrin:.
does not have appropriate tools, thinks that to make a hole you have to create a circle, extrude it and cut it all.
then at the table if it is a thread does not represent it, as the same does with the tolerances it does not have.

on viacad I do not see in the site great tools for the mechanical part, but having never seen it or used my opinion is worth nothing.
We wait for someone else who knows him.

Unfortunately the budget is limited:frown: (and autodesk is not nice to me) I find myself having to choose one of the following software
viacad pro
rhinoceros
varicad

in my activity I carry out both design of mechanical equipment and reverse engineer, rhino is not bad (I remove so much hat for the management of the nurbs) however as a mechanical cad lets you want. varicad is parametric but I have no idea if it handles nurbs. viacad is a middle way, half parametric and half rhino....

I knew that fusion 360 for startups up to 100 dollars of turnover was just free, at the most costs some ten euros per month. (I looked now, I confirm, up to 100 thousand dollars is for free use, perhaps for the first three years however, I did not understand if renewable) is much more indicated for mechanics, and also has modeling nurbs.
for reverse I do not think there are possibilities to add, as in rhino, specific plugins, certainly has tspline but does not work with a stl, unless they "extense" the surfaces by hand, in short a function there, informed to see if it does to your case, and if it is implemented in fusion, because I knew it in the plugin for rhino
be careful that a plugin done well for reverse in rhino can cost as rhino itself.

I tried varicad, a cad "similar to sw" or parametric but with the limitation on the import of files (only stp). the choice clings to
viacad and rhino. I think that rhino probably has an extra march on the nurbs, the reverse I will have to perform will be based on sections on stl files and then rebuilt with loft (I did a demo test and I am satisfied). do they use rhino for mechanics?

qui find rhino plugins related to mechanics and scanning.
Thank you very much for the links, in these days I have made some tests with the demo version (90 days) I think that rhino responds the closest to the specifics of my work, although I think I will also acquire viacad to compensate for the rhino gaps.

qui find rhinoparametric, is a plugin that adds the classic features of a parametric, it is not the same thing, but it is already much, compared to basic rhino. I don’t know though if it is still developed, the main site is offline, but the demo is downloadable, take a look costs nothing.

Thank you very much for the material, very interesting. You know how to recommend an official dealer? Unfortunately in the past I had bad surprises... .

It seems to me that it is suspended as development and sale, there is also rhinowork qui the Italian seller.

I'm sorry if I insist, but you have everything you need and free with fusion 360...so that you're antipatic autodesk.. : )

I have been (and am still) a proud supporter of the autodesk, autocad revit inventor are high-level software that I know their potential because I spent years drawing us. fusion 360 is currently the apex of autodesk masterpieces. solidworks remains, according to me, the true parametric cad, I currently realize designs on creo parametric but unfortunately as management of stl files and free forms is a little tied.
in the studio I need a smart software and I found it in viacad and rhino (the latter used even at school).
rhino perhaps convinced me more for the ability to create scripts in python, would allow me to bring behind some freecad :redface scripts:

just for free I wouldn't say... .
Unless you have an active suite subscription, but I don't think your case.

it seems to have understood that for startups up to $100 thousand dollars turnover is free the first three years, then you pay on 40 euros per month, it does not seem bad.
