I am interested in deepening especially with those who make use of it, of how the labyrinth channels on the flanges, axial and radial.
I am not interested in trade products already made.
very often, on machines subject to dust, the flange turned into the house.
I have already found this publication in 2017 but it is not exhaustive at all.

Surely if I have to limit the outflow of fluid I will have small games. If I have to keep the contaminants out, I will have more game and work the centrifugal force.
But I'm hunting for something more precise and spendable.

remember, from the examination of fluid machines, that the second type (from left) is used on the trees of steam turbines: the " comb" seal causes the fluid to be continuously subject to change of energy (it must always exchange pressure energy with kinetic energy at each step in the thin section). This results in a huge load loss ending to minimize steam flow.

When I dedicated myself to the design of the gearboxes, the labyrinth seals were required in some particular applications to prevent abrasive dust from getting in touch with the sealing rings by damaging them. they built flanges with channels arranged as in the second scheme of your first image; the distance between the rotor flange and the stator was generally 0.5 mm considering a finish obtained from an accurate turning. In my case, of course, the fat (very dense) did not come into contact with the bearing lubricant that was already lubricated with oil, but it only served to collect the impurities that incorporated during the operation and which were expelled through the periodic regreasing planned.

timken, skf and ina use the taconite series, as a non-contact gasket made to labyrinth but use it on cast iron bearing supports. therefore there are no indications on measures, spaces etc.

thanks is already an extra reference and you see that they recommend a game of 0.3/0,5mm. certainly we do not know about what diameters but you think up to 200mm of seal about.
