saved files... are too many?

hello to all, I would like to ask you a question fruit of pure curiosity:

with creo 3.0 I am finishing a assembled composed of about twenty different parts, almost all shaped by me. in the project folder (where I hold the assembly, the various parts and tables) there are almost 400 files between the various .prt .asm and .drw.

the question is precisely this, how come so many files? ?
for the only assembled I have 77 parts (asm.2 - .3 - .4 - .... - .76 - .77)
possible that every little change that you make to an object you create a new version?
and finally, eliminate all the old versions of a part or a set and leaving only the most recent, is it a correct move to earn in terms of size and order? or is it likely to compromise its work?

I tried to search the forum but I wasn't lucky. :frown:
thanks in advance

create a file to each save just to allow you to recover every moment of your modeling. even in case of corrupt files in this way you can recover the file immediately previous. to clean the folder you have to use the purge, I used a very good external fact that also renamed the versions (for example by bringing them back to one). I think this program is no longer supported in the latest versions (I used it with wf4.0).

proof questo:
http://innotiv-spekan-purge-tool.software.informer.com/ but I don't know if it also supports creo 3
is configurable and eventually cleans also the sd2xxx.sec.y sketch files

as to the "marea" of files at first can disorient those coming from other cad, but the rescue system is definitely rocky: You will hardly find yourself in situations where due to corrupt files or errors you will have to start over.

in creo 3 there is some news about it... I personally do not recommend disabling the creation of previous versions because they are extra security. I usually purge at the end of the project as I was taught by old-school users.

Thank you all for the answers!! I am not going to block the creation of new versions and probably cannot be blocked with a simple option.
I'm going to do a "cleaning" project. ;)

according to me if you enter the config.pro line save_file_iterations no The program doesn't make you any more.
Maybe you could try and let us know how it goes. I think this novelty interests all users I create.
if you are interested you can also make a more gradual purge, or delete the previous versions only of some element (part, assembly, drowing etc... that is). there is the command delete previous versions that in case you could only use to purge the files that interest you (maybe those you are quieter than).

Sorry calacc, yesterday I answered from mobile phone with mini work and I didn't see the image you put. very interesting the use of the tool option that I had not actually noticed yet.
As for the "save_file_iterations no" line, I will test you and let you know.

You don't have to apologize for so little:
It's that I'm working with creo 2 now and I wanted to figure out a few things before I jumped on 3.
