kind friends of cad3d, I signed up for a while and this and my first post was actually longer than so but I don't know why it was cut.
summing up: after years of powershape ver 5.02 it is time to move to something that is at the pace with the times...our customers use unigraphics, solidworks and creo.
with these software I have zero experience, it would be a new beginning.
the question from a million dollars is: you on which you would direct me and why?
I do design molds for plastics...I read many other posts but I did not find answer to my questions why I open my discussion hoping it evolved into a healthy chat.

.
I recommend your client (or supplier) more important. the possibility to exchange data in native format is in fact a very important added value. Then it also evaluates the price, surely ugs and creo cost more than solidworks, at least regarding maintenance.

then there are some important data: are you a technical study selling drawings? Are you a company that sells molds? How many are you using cad? etc. etc.

Hello, thank you for the answer.

we are a company that designs and builds molds on behalf of third parties...the only designer and programmer cam is me. at the cam level we use powermill that we intend to keep as it egregiamente does its work. I'm trying to convince the bosses to move on to something better. I'm asking for demos of the three software I mentioned to try them but not knowing how to use them I doubt that it's enough to make a choice.
I would choose what:
a) you learn in less time and is more intuitive in commands
b) has a better performance over time without needing continuous update
c) does not need 1000 additional packages to be complete

sellers unfortunately in the choice do not help, and our suppliers obviously if asked are in favor of their own software.
I realize that to update us we have put too much and we miss the experience but it is time to make a choice.

So, I had the pleasure of chatting with a siemens employee who gave me an idea about the costs of nx and solid edge. I would say that nx is definitely out of budget while solid edge that I had not taken into consideration can do to our case and since there is a chance to try it for 45 days I will take advantage of the upcoming holidays to try it and see how I am. being direct competitor of solidworks I think that at the level of functionality we are there and worth taking it into consideration. I hope with the new year to be contacted also by ptc and dassault systèmes to have a complete picture of the situation.
meanwhile thanks to those who responded to this post and good holidays to all.

Well, if it's a good system, and in recent years it's growing a lot. Besides, it's also very popular here in the region so I think it might be a good choice. you can also rent for limited periods, if a job point such as to require temporary reinforcement in the u.

If I decided to pre-determinate it, give absolutely the floating licenses, because otherwise it becomes very complicated and expensive to move the licenses from one workstation to another if you do not renew the assistance. Unfortunately, on the management side of siemens licences, they have a police vision and do not realize the flexibility needs of the small enterprise.

I can't give you a technical opinion.

hey, rik, i wanted to ask you a question.
powershape 5 is several centuries ago, then it had only the modeling of surfaces, no parasolid, with parametric features and direct modelling and division figures automatically as it has today, all things that for mold design make the difference to what you use.
why didn't you consider it? what limitations does the current product have in your opinion? does the update cost too much?

hi apologies if I answer you only now but I have no way to attend the forum, the problem with powershape 5 in addition to the fact that it is exceeded is commercially, to pass to the last version they have demanded the purchase also of all the previous versions, in my opinion a theft. Then, for charity, with the software in the years I found myself well and of molds I have designed so many but if I have to change I prefer to move to something more advanced as I think they are the programs I mentioned.

I reconnect to this post for other tips... I spoke to the commercial of the programs that I was interested in and soon we will make a demonstration in company of all three software. I was wondering, since the purchase is not very urgent, do you have to offer me some other cad name suitable for mold design?
Moreover if I do not ask too much, is there someone who draws molds with solidworks, solidedge or creo that wants to give me their own direct opinion? how do you find yourself etc...

depends on what type of mold you go to design. I with sw I made coniatura molds with different shapes and fittings, some things though I couldn't do them and so I passed everything to my colleague who had power shape. however it was unthinkable also to manage the complete flash holder with power shape, the sw was fine. What kind of mold do you need to design?

injection moulds for plastics for various sectors but with speed for cars and appliances. I often manage with a lot of details.

choosing a cad is choosing a work tool.
When choosing a lathe, press, punching machine, what are the criteria for choosing?
price and productivity.
but often there is only one factor, the price.
companies that spend millions of euros in caxxate buy less productive cad to save 2000 euros per license and are to spend in terms of non-productivity those 4 picks within a few months. dealer demos serve little, they will never show you the "defects" of their product and you will not be able to discover them.

"...it's inutole you'll take care of! the death we have already put on... " [Cit.1]"Remember that you must die..." [Cit.2]I know that rik_1980, taken by the shock, will end up a used tecnigraph

Hi, I know you don't have to stop just at the price but unfortunately I have a budget to respect and so it's a factor that matters. However what I am interested in most is finding the product that best suits my needs, I have no doubt that the various retailers speak well of their product and try to address you precisely on that (I spoke just a few minutes ago with a dealer toptron who spent all the time talking bad about other cad and his almost didn't tell me anything) but I have 16 years of experience and my choice will do it alone. But first I need information and see these software as they behave. Since you use I create, which I care, why don't you give me your opinion on the program? I certainly trust more than your opinion of user than others..a greeting

You know, I've been in the studio since school. Sometimes I regret it.

However, it is not necessary to think that high cost = high productivity. It would be like to say that technical progress is impossible, while instead we know that technological innovation comes from new players arriving on the market, breaking the returns of position acquired by the old established actors.

for me it is the perfect cad, on the 5 that I know the most performing, the most stable and the most productive. I feel very lucky because at the time of choice I had 3000 doubts and I trusted the advice of those who were near me and the dealer who had seemed much more serious than others. After eight and a half years... I have to say that it was a really "accepted" choice.

Can I ask you what use do you make?

being our a design studio we mainly deal with product development. therefore projects covering various sectors. Designed components can result from sheet metal processing, thermoforming, casting, particle removal, injection molding. we do not design molds but I know that I create is very used in this field and if I do not remember badly it has a specific module for this type of design. then like all the specific modules ... if you can also do without it but if you deal mainly with that they give you a big hand in terms of productivity.

In fact it is the specific module for molds that I particularly care about every cad, as well as all other functions of course. I read, I don't remember where, that I create is not exactly what an intuitive cad says...confermi?

about not being intuitive... is the weapon used by the competition to bring water to your mill. I find it much more intuitive than others. as all programs have their own logic of operation. for a few years the learning phase is much cheaper because e-learning (exercises and online libraries) costs much less than the official courses that once had markedly engraved on the purchase.
