in my company there is only one data server for all various entities, and all draw and deposit from that server.

often happens that the server (I don't know why) is slowing down in a sensitive way! !

I am the only one to use inventor, who is installed locally on my machine and do not use the vault. As a result of server slowdowns I often have to wait for minutes to update the set only by dragging a single part.. .

can this slowdown be due to the server? ?

Among other things all my doves using cars solve the problem temporarily saving on c (which is not feasible with inventor) and this makes it very little sensitive to the problem of duty. .

I have a similar problem and yes, the slow server stacks me (the fast hd is one of the essential elements to have performance): reason I work locally and in the evening I make a backup on the updated/modified data server. It's true I have a data duplication, but speed is not comparable.

years ago I had the same problem (except in your case I wouldn't want it to be due to abstinence, but if you say that the problem is also with autocad...), however, since I have:

* file server and client for inventor 64bit
* on the server file the two hds of archive are in raid0 (obviously daily backup to avoid data loss, but if you have any money to spend you could put 4 hd in raid10 so you are even safer)
* client/server network cards 1gbps
* switch to 1gbps

all without vault, and the speed was no longer a problem.
It's gonna take you some time and some money to get to an optimal state, but I think I can tell you that this works well.

Well, just everything is local: having immediately seen how it turned on the net, I kept on my pc (and the project files accordingly point to local). in the evening I copy on the server, but in reality it is only to make backup. the thing is not risk-free: for a couple of years has added another designer (when I started doing so I was alone and so I didn't place the problem...) and we have to be very careful what we change (we don't use the vault or other third-party software that would simplify life) but with a little attention we didn't have big problems, and we use the server also as a point of interchange and business standards. if you are alone (and expect to remain there) local management can be a solution for increasing performance.
said this, it is out of doubt that it is much, much better than indicated by the Ilario: but if you can't, you can't. Unfortunately from me you can not do because the systemist told me that it would be necessary to rest the network cables, which are not prepared for 1gpbs, otherwise it would be the right choice.

I don't know what network cables you have in your system, but all rj45 cables with 8 poles are suitable for going to 1gbps, I don't understand how you can not have the suitable cables, unless they did the system 40 years ago, but anyway the rj45 I know have always gone to 8 poles... I am a new inventor user 2010, I started using it only for a few weeks: on your problem I went crazy too, to open a file on the server it took 10/15 seconds, even for drawings of a few kb.

I personally solved by mapping the network connection with a drive letter: before it was \\server\signs, since I mapped a s:, restarted and pointed there, all smooth row.
