simulation of water waves

Hello, everyone. I wanted to ask you if you could help me with a problem with the finite elements from which I do not know where to leave (it is the first time I mention myself in this matter). I should simulate water waves by solving the equation of 2d waves with the freefem++ program (in paragraph 3.3 of the freefem++ manual there is some reference to this problem) and write the weak formulation of the problem.
