single processor or bi-processor?

I am about to buy a workstation of the o h-p... 64bit
My doubt is on the processor : solidworks can exploit the bi-processor
or should you take only one processor with more ghz possible?
how graphics card also uses more than 1gb of ram?
better nvidia or ati?

soidworks, from what I see, takes advantage of more cores only in a few cases. the new processors are quad cores and they are already not exploited properly so. The second processor is money thrown. for the video card... The more there is and the better.
I'm also buying a workstation and I think I'm orienting myself on a processor xeon 5580 with vga picture fx 4800

Indeed, solidworks uses more than one core only on rare occasions, such as regeneration of the masses on the table.
the speech changes if you want to make rendering, both photoworks and photoview360 take advantage of all the available cores and processors.
actually that of the lack of exploitation of multiple cores according to me is a big sin in a program like swx, in fact now also home computers are at least dual-core.
for the video card I recommend you nvidia, with a good dose of ram.

I still use xp pro 32bit. They bought me a workstation holding my hand on the wallet and scanning the technical requisists now arched for this cad:
“clocking / ram /cpu / os / antivirus / hdd / vga / various hardware /” (in order)

result: office purchases to answer the fake savings because technicians looking at pcs cost much more than a bad expense.

“c’ho” 8 core e5410 with a clock frequency of 2.33ghz(entry level). the result is that in the task manager you always see one/two cores 100%, others sleep. Running the beckmarks to locate my situation I found that it would be better a dual/quad with high clock frequencies at equal budget. I confirm the workstation is stable and silent.

I realize models of traditional mechanics (no surfaces) with 2000/3000 parts of various types (structural members / sheet), materials and objects imported from sat/par/igs files and I make structural fems.

I'm making some confusion. Now all processors are at least dual core... but there are also workstations with 2 processors. . .

In practice you tell me that it is best to prend a workstation with a xeon (which is 4 cores), rather than a post with 2 xeon (which however costs an extra pole)?
I am also about to acuqistare a workstation, and I had been proposed a machine with a xeon (4core), 12 gb of ram and nividia picture fx 1800, plus monitor 22" to about 2000 coffee...

having a processor at 4 cores and 4 processors at a core for swx changes little, does not exploit them. for this it is worth investing on the performance for single core, but mind, not only at the frequency, you need to see the tests related to the cpu to understand.
the latest xeon series (the 55xx series definitely) and the i7 processors (I also believe i5) when they realize that it is working only one core automatically increases the frequency on that core, often going beyond 3 ghz. It is not a matter of arousing but of a standard function of intel on these cpus.
There are also dual processor workstations, each of which could be quad cores and these are exploited for rendering and fem. the fem heavily uses the processor and + there is better is.
to give you an example of the 5500 and 7500 series of the two-processor.

I suggest you make a pc with:

1) Liquid cooling made by specialized and oc firms guaranteed with operation 24/24
2) cpu dualcore
3) 4 or more rams in function of so (xp 32 or 64....view is slow and seven with sw2010 gives me many problems)
4) Fast antivirus (type nod31) with the exclusion of *.sld* files both PC side and possibly server side!
5) ssd intel disc
6) picture fx 5600 1.5 gb ram (on the bay there are many "occasions")
7) pc with installed less stuff possible (faster and stable)
