slim machine groups

I've had this problem for a long time, but I've always been patient.

I have a machine made up of various groups assembled together.
when I go to make the table of a group I care at least to show in thin those neighbors for engulfs etc. , but for reasons of heaviness of the files I do not want to leave with the putting into the table from the machine and select the one to show in thin and what is to be eliminated, mostly then the separate is never good.

I want to start this time from the table of the single group.

How to do that?

I only put on the table the group I need,
and then I put in 3d all the asses, I take the light gray, then I choose the group of the table and tell him to do it black.
I don't know if axes are big if it's too slow. .
