small extrusion moving problem

Good morning, having undertaken the study of 3ds max through the book of emiliano segatto, I came across the first problem that is making me fool or, the proposed exercise is the import of a dwg from autocad and the construction of solids.. .I'm messed up because I can't move to the "right share" extruded solids, the book tells me to press the f12 button to activate the type-in transform, but pressing it doesn't make me change anything!!! How do you do that?

it opens with f12, but I prefer the other way
