solid corrupt city modelling unit

I have a solid 3d (building already washed by windows) and I want to remove a part (it is too long), I tried with subtract and pull the message is error modeling operation: Spigolo-face contrasting relationship. if you want me to attach the file, suggestions?

the solid that I need is the yellow one, the parts to remove are the wings .. from the pink then

I actually managed to solve the problem by losing hours on hours playing on the ucs and then subtract..but excuse me the very trivial question and from who doesn't chew ..that modeling errors there is a way to solve them? or do I have to start again from scratch?!?
