Hello, guys, I'm at first with v8i microstations and I have some trouble with 3d tools. Actually, I can't find them. I would like to start composing a 3d but when I open "tool" on the menu bar the voices "solid, mesh, surfaces, sheet composition and feature solids" are in gray and I can't select them much less to carry them on the "task" along with other tools. Where am I wrong? by chance to start a 3d it is necessary to create a different sheet (or things like that, I throw it there  )? ? ? ?

Thank you.
Hi.

When you start a new design with microstation, you have to make sure that the seed (seed) is the right one.
in autocad you can move from drawing 2d to drawing 3d in an atom, i.e. you have a basic figure and then extrude it and becomes a solid for e.g.
micro no!
1) open micro
2) in the menu box that shows you choose new file at the top
Okkio you can resize the box as you want.
3) below you see a row with a left-handed seed, and dx the inscription browse
4) doing clik on the latter you choose the seed file you need, your dgn will have all the features of what you chose.
You normally have the model, the trans and then the seed2d and seed3d, you have to choose the 3d obviously.
This system is a menata but it's also cool, how many times in autocad did you find 2d files that had some stuff shot in space?
micro this does not happen because the 2d file is really 2d, that is you can't draw anything 3d inside it, it's all on the zero plane.
you were trying to draw 3d on a solid created only for the 2d, simple.

Hi.
All right.
I add that seed files, you can "personalize them". for example the path (for v8) to follow for the 2d (but is the same for the 3d) is c:\programs\bentley|worksapce\system\seed\seed2d.dgn
then open settings, design, and set to your preference work units, colors, etc.etc.
always in settings, find view attributes with other customizable settings.
for example in element, I set quotation and text styles so as to always quote and write with the same characters and colors.
v8i not use (because they never updated the licenses) but should not be very different.

Thank you very much! You were very precise! I didn't know where to bang my head.
thanks also to you exatem I will try to customize them too!
Sorry guys but I really couldn't find these info on the net... before your help.. .
but how is the number of tutorials and guides so poor around?
go well that autocad is the best known, but there will be some links on which to find tutorials to experience...you know nothing?

Thanks again

In fact there is not much documentation on microstation.
here:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g5saib9iiacfind some tutorials.
some manuals can find it here:http://www.manuali.it/index.php?searchword=microstation&option=com_search&itemid=23&searchphrase=allhttp://www.elesson.it/apri_manuale.asp?cd=1102http://www.elesson.it/apri_manuale.asp?cd=1103then search within the forum, other information was posted by cad3d users.
Hi.

Please cadrev:biggrin:
I only add that any file customizations I make them keeping me the unmodified originals, i.e. once opened the seed file I save with name and work only on the new file.
you never know:wink: ...... as I had done at the time customizations on the starting files or autocad templates.

I also take advantage of it to thank exatem for the precious links :finger:
thanks and hello

In fact, in the 3d seed file you can safely draw two-dimensional elements by blocking them at the quota you choose and then extrude what you want.
the 2d seed file is nothing but a 3d with the z that does not appear because blocked at zero and not editable, therefore three-dimensional tools are not active.
for the customization of texts, quotas and so on, if you want to have more than one available to use from time to time for different needs even within the same project and the same work session you should use the "dgnlib" rather than enter the seed file.
