Good evening to all and well found!
I have a problem. I am designing a ring, model musone, to which I will have to apply a rhombus pattern (see some post behind the ring of " cicala " with esagon perforation). the cicala ring was first developed on the floor and then applied, thanks to the darts of mariuss, on a reference surface, so that I also did with the snake or with the post-addryter diadem.

the problem arises when the surface to be cleared is double curvature (see file ).

the plot to be applied is that, in fact, to rombi. I can partially solve by creating the uv curves of the surface, apply the plot in the created perimeter and reapply them, but you understand well that they deform considerably according to the surface trend.

Why doesn't the _unrollsrf double-curve command work?

Do you have any other stratagems?

thanks in advance,
alessandro

Hi.
unfortunately a double curvature surface by its nature is not developable
is not a limit of the _unrollsrf command, it is just an operation that is not possible. . .
a double curvature surface is for example the peel of an orange: If you try to crush it and make it adhere to a plan you will never fail unless you tear it or deform it. . is the same reason why you can't design a planisfero without deforming the shape of groenlandia.

returning to rhino, you can try using the smash command, which tries to develop your undevelopable surface by deforming it as little as possible. . the resulate depends on how "strange" the starting surface is. Since the file you posted, I'm afraid you'll still have difficulty getting an acceptable result, unless you try to break the surface into multiple parts (for example, using symmetry... )

put in the help index "develop a surface" (in Italian) you will find indications that can be useful to you...
Good job!

Bye!
thank you so much for the answer...but I solved, I disdained one to one on the surface...I did before! ;)

Thanks anyway. I'm studying the smash command.
