Hello everyone,
I would like to ask if you can set cat so that you can import threads from .step files as well.
I ask this because every time I unload a commercial component in step format, I am forced to look for the relative tables of technical drawings as threads are not recognized by catia.
I thank in advance those who will answer my question, indicating also the way in which catia v5 should be set.
Good evening.

is not a fault of catia that does not matter threads.
rather a problem of converters exporting in step.
that I know the only one that exports the fillets in step is pro/engineer that today is called creo.
but it actually exports the surface that simulates the maximum size of the thread and not only the threading hole as most converters do.
in any case you would find a step with the pre-fores and around them a surface that has the maximum size of the thread.
to put on the table then you have to work anyway by modifying the 3d by threading the pre-light.

I see from your profile that you use other cads,
try to export ,in step, a pattern with threaded holes and then reread it with the same cad you exported it.
you will have the same problem

Good evening, thank you victorious.
a colleague claims to succeed with solidworks, with the recognition of features. much depends also on how the source file was created.
Cit."try to export, in step, a pattern with threaded holes and then reread it with the same cad you exported it with." I'll try with other software. Thank you.

the step has as geometry a smooth hole with or without conical bottom.
no cad independently recognizes what is a "cosmetic".
some cads have conversion tools in feaurures. often they do not work, they convert as they want and if they succeed they do so geometrically. think it turns into feaurures threaded hole m16 I see it hard ...

I was more interested in setting up the table, and therefore in recognizing the quota as a thread. a real shame that there is no file able to communicate with all cads, and that you bring with you all the information of the file of origin

in that case you could do a macro with catia (if you know the vbs language)
where all holes for example ø14 are threaded by m16.
There is always the danger that a hole from ø14 is threaded even if in reality it should be ø14h7. unfortunately there is no automatism that simplifies what you ask

I don't use it, but you're 100% sure that solidworks does this?

I am a solidworks user and sincerely there is nothing but conversion, how it can, from step to selectable functions between those dche it makes you select from those you want to use to process the file.
If it were able to make the converted table they wouldn't even need people.... let's think about the concepts and see that some things can be possible with mediocre results and others just don't.
as the fact of not having a universal file....of course otherwise the owners cad would no longer exist.

thank you victorious,
As for macros I am not experienced, and it would certainly lead to the risks indicated by you.
I will continue to work by consulting the tables of the builders and with hand caliber, verifying that the quotas are actually the ones indicated.
asks for advice by virtue of improving, always...and always with a smile to those who manifest the: "I know everything".
thanks to all of the attention
