stress tensor in patran-nastran

I wanted to ask you if the tension tensor components (stress tensor), when analyzing the results in patran, refer to the global reference system. for example z_component is the normal voltage acting on the normal z surface of an element? or when using quad4 elements with shell properties the tensor components are related to a local reference to the element?

in shells the results are in the element reference system, but you can always plot them in any reference system by choosing in the options found in the right column of patran.
in the element reference system the z direction is normal to the shell. so the z component does not exist for a shell. as you cannot have tension and compression according to the normal to the element.

Do one of the evidence to impractice you. make a shell in the xy plan. orient the material for y and put the load for y
then do the plot of the tension changes reference system.
