switch from local with a server to 2

Good morning to all

After 13 years that I use inventor always and only locally (I have always been alone in the office so for convenience in the big assemblies, I always worked locally and then synchronized on server) from January I will have in the office a new colleague with a second post.

the big problem I think we will encounter, (even if we are evaluating the installation of vault that, for the fact of having only one post, to today I have never used or installed) will be like managing the paths of the files.

In fact, I saw that opening a set from the server instead of the club as usual, all parts still refer to the local location so that if I change name to the main folder, it finds nothing and opens me the unresolved file page where I should go to give the new location on servers of each part, worse situation for the content center, even that managed and saved always locally.

Is there any way to change/add quickly the paths where inventor will go looking for the parts, etc?with the content center how could I do? Thank you.

it's better to be done by a specialized company, but inventor will always work locally. the documents will be extracted and archived to the necessary.
try to imagine they were on the server, and consequently, an office of 10 people. the network would be saturated in zero time. the network is used only to download and store documents. the big advantage of the vault is the management of revisions, the archive on a server whose backup is made compared to a machine that could have a thousand problems, cooperation etc.
the important thing is to set it right at the beginning, usually on the server there are xml links to the contained center (in the end are simil excel tables), and templates.

If people are only two you can safely work with directly on the server... we are in 5 and we have no problems of slowness due to this.

more important is to pay attention to the contemporary opening of files. inventor, unlike autocad does not say that a file is opened by another user and, once the file is opened, "the one that commands" is the first that saves... then you risk working on a file and then find yourself unable to save it. . .

I said this, in my opinion, to work in two it is necessary the vault, if you work on a project opened by another colleague throw away time then there are many useful features in the vault, think that I am only but shortly I will install it, instead I will install it because it is quite complicated, between setting of the sql server and the rest it takes one who knows what it does, and I am not talking about possibility to do damage (even that anyway) but just I say I do not say boss
there is the free basic vault with limited functionality but according to me sufficent to good management, you pay (very) who installs that you , but if in the future you decided to pass to the professional the passage is directed

I would do that, too. vault basic and you have enough.

hello where I work we use it in 5 on servers with shared folders without problems.
the whole set from
project saved on the net
and fish all the same
application options --> files and set to all same folders on servers (except temporary files)
content center and set to all same folders on servers
so you have all the same things

but are you talking about vault projects or single user projects? You obviously mean .ipj files, right?

Good morning. I mean the .ipj file. the speech is, I imposed the standard project with all the paths of the libraries and save it in my project folder. When I go to make a new project, I always have to reinstate them manually. if I use files included works but always I have to do it every time.

no no no the project file does not refer to orders but to companies (to simply say it.
So, I think I understand that you're addicted, okay you have a business project (inteso come file .ipj) , perfect you have to use only that, always.

the project file is nothing but a file that serves inventor to know what the settings are to follow, for example:
- work area path
- path styles and materials
- template path
- path centre content
-external libraries
ect ect
Is the company one? perfect, the basic settings will always be the same, so only one project file. be lucky
