Good evening to all,
I am preparing a quote for the design of a part of a mechanical plant.
I looked at the professional rates, and it seems that for the design the tariff should be "percentage". only that, being a plant of a type that is not known to me, I have great difficulties to calculate a value of the work and estimate a percentage for the hourly.
I imagine that I have to estimate a weight, know the cost parameters per kilo for the specific plant, and use an honorary percentage for the industrial sector.
I get much easier to estimate time for various design tasks, each with a different time cost, and then sum everything.

professional rates however say that this way of proceeding is applicable to:
a) reliefs of any nature and related preliminary studies; the verifications for corrections of borders and similar;
b) the competences for negotiations with the authorities and neighbouring, the practices for expropriations and locations, information and similar conferences;
c) the time spent on return journeys, when work to be paid by percentage or quantity must be carried out outside the office;
(d) variants to the maximum projects, during the course of study of these, if resulting from circumstances that the professional could not foresee

How do you behave?

Hello fulvio
The second is to understand if you are the thinking part of the whole prog.
or in principle has already been drawn up for large points
and you have a feasibility study
so two things with ratio 1/10
for the quote
Maybe you need to understand how many months of work there are to do
calculating when needed for expenses for the activity of prog
and when you have to take home to camp
If you do a whole series of arithmetic operations, you don't finish it anymore.
I wish you a great 2010

hi shiren, thank you for the answer.
I actually have an excellent familiarity with estimates for works I know about nature. as usual in fact I made the following accounts:
- divided the work into three parts: basic engineering, detail engineering and construction boards
- divided the work in phases, each with a type of work (drawing, design, static calculation, yard supervision, management, etc.)
- estimated time for each activity
- times multiplied by the economic value of each type of work

I get a result more or less credible. However, since the customer is "particular" I wanted to try to justify the value of the work considering also the calculation of the parcels, which is very clear in construction, but in mechanics I do not find it much applicable.
