two graphics cards on the pc

Bye to all,
I found a similar discussion but a little dated so I ask you this question:
I recently purchased a powerful enough hp desktop:
- 16 gb ram
- processor i7 3.4 ghz

series mounts a graphics card nvidia geforce gtx 460 2 gb of memory that works quite well using solidworks 2010 and autocad 2010.... now I also got the nvidia picture 2000 with 1 gb of memory to optimize the use of solidworks.
Now, I would hate to throw geforce into when a good tab and practically new..... .
Is there a possibility to mount them both?
do they work together or are they activated depending on the application used?
What would you do?
I don't want to do any damage of course. ....

thanks in advance for the tips.:finger:

you should use the sli configuration though if I don't remember the cards should be the same i.e. the same model and not the same in the sense of the same brand ( envy).

I think they don't work in parallel.
if I don't remember badly there were sli type cards that allowed this mode.
azz... simultaneously:-)

I would also be comfortable to choose which to use:

if I use solidworks active the picture
x movie games or other use geforce

I felt like there was a way... but I wouldn't want to hurt the picture (with what I paid you know how it is....)

I don't think the sli works for two cards so different, but you can mount it the same, the picture for the viewport, and the 460 to make calculations or make gp-gpu, but beware of the coexistence, you couldn't use more specific drivers for swx, at least so it is for 3ds.
to do what you say, you have to unplug and attach the monitor back to the data sheet.

I'm sorry, but it's a new field for me....
What do you mean by:
Couldn't you use more specific drivers for swx?
the fact of connecting each time the monitor to the card that I want to use would be a relative problem (if it is only that). ....

I believe that with the swx framework has specific drivers made specifically for the cad in question, to be installed in addition to the default ones of the picture (the new gtx with ogl go very badly, with similar performance to dated nvidia cards, while being much more powerful) in this case the above drivers should go in conflict with those of the geforce. This fact has been combined in 3d max studio, where to use the engine to render iray integrated in the last versions that works with the gpu, they are usually flanked by geforce and painting, because in max the geforce precisely have poor performance in viewport.
so you can use the basic ones of the picture, along with the gtx, but not the specific ones added, with a decrease of performance around 20-30%. but the picture is fine, with good performance.

At this point I believe that it is better to use the full potential of the picture alone with its dedicated drivers?
and maybe sell the geforce.... I'm sorry though....

many of you are too young but years ago the dream of us players was having two voodoo 2 of 3dfx in parallel.
then nvidia reproposed the thing with the sli mode.
the use of two video cards simultaneously was made possible by the new pci express interface even if this is not enough.
you need a mb equipped with nforce 4 sli chipset (more expensive than a normal card) and the bridge to connect between them the two graphics cards. Moreover, the power supply must be assessed.
fundamental requirement however is to have two identical video cards.

true, in fact I have a motherboard gigabyte with chipset nforce 4 sli and supplied has a skein with two connectors to connect the two video cards, which obviously have to be equal (and honestly I'm not even sure if you can do with all the models of cards) then it has supplied another metallic gadget to fix everything (of course never thought to make use of)

nvidia uses sli technology while the ati crossfire but are "grossomodo" the same thing.

but today the sli is not used practically by any cad, is it? it is used for realtime motors based on game engine, to make cuda/opencl away there is no need.

dream come true!
were a fairy tale with glide (antesignane graphic books of opengl).

I would need help.... .
today I tried to remove the geforce and install the 2000 picture....
After installing the drivers though setting the screen resolution (1920x1080) standar for the monitor 27" happens that the images are larger than the monitor, i.e. they come out and only resize the resolution I can view everything on the screen....
the problem is that the quality of the images is worse than the geforce......especially in the texts and on solidworks......the letters are all slightly blurred. . . .
What could be the problem?
the drivers I installed are the last and downloaded directly from the site nvidia.... .
Can someone help me?

Thank you.

with what cable did you connect the card to the monitor? Are you sure the native resolution has actually been taken from the tab?
As for the performance with swx I point out that there is a patch to be installed on the pc to properly work the last generation of picture (of which the 2000 is also part).

the board I connected it with the hdmi cable of the confaction......... was included a cable with:
on one side taken hdmi that goes to the board, on the other a dvi socket that enters the monitor with hdmi attack........I made some mistakes there?
the drivers I installed this:http://www.nvidia.it/object/quadro-win7-winvista-64bit-270.71-whql-driver-it.htmlThe patch you say where I find it? on the site nvidia does not seem to have found it...... but still the problem of the blurred images is on all applications....

If you give me a hand you make me a big pleasure....with what costs this card it burns me a bit not to make it go perfectly....also because the geforce gtx460 is revealing better than the prevsto......

It seems strange to me that the resolution of the monitor from 27" is (1920x1080) I have a 24" and the native resolution is (1920x1200) you are sure that it does not natively use a higher resolution

I would need help.... .
What's your monitor? Are you sure the resolution is what you say? (or is it a fullhd monitor/tv? )
I think it should be 1920x1200 and not for 1080. and the symptoms are just those of wrong resolution.
then it is strange that you had to set it; if the installation of card and driver goes to good end when you restart should automatically set to the right default one, without any intervention.

did you first uninstall the driver of the previous gefo?

and try to connect card and monitor with dvi > dvi.

the patch you are talking about is for the new picture (as your) for versions of swx 2010 sp4.0 and lower.. from the sp5.0 forward does not need.
find it on the site of swx with explanations in the section of the video drivers.. ah, and also the drivers download them from there that are optimized and certified for swx, rather than the last ones from the nvidia site (it is not said that the most recent functions with cad).

greetings
Mar
