as from title I would like to use vault basic that is included in the inventor license on a "single" pc, not connected to a corporate network.

this to have available storage tools, rename files, move them etc.

was installed together with inventor but not configured.

first, can you use it like that? Maybe by configuring an external hard drive as an archive.

if I open the vault asks for a psw, also from a mistake because it cannot connect to localhost.

it is not impossible if you read the guide and you have some familiarity with the installations. (I used it on my pc just for your own reasons)
Know that what you have installed now is the client side vault. you also need to install the vault server and then "talk" it with the client and inventor.
I would not use it with an external hard drive, but with a partition or a folder directly below c:\
then on external hd I would only make backup.
maybe feel your dealer: if they are honest in a few hours they install it and configure it. then a couple more hours for a minicourse.

I use the professional from the 2013 version manages very well links, automatic coding, rename various files, search, then I would stop here, for everything else always has some kiss or limitation .... I've never used any other software like this, but with hindsight, I don't know if I would still use it... .

Now we're two technicians. installed the vault server on the server and we use the client part.
we will soon pass to the professional version that has more functions, but for what you have described you is sufficient the basic version.
