what is the "common name" for?

I tried to do some research, but I didn't get nothing.
use wf5. I would like to know what the "common name" is for and in what situations it is useful and how to handle it.

for how we manage the files on wf4+pdmlink we found this use:

of each file (prt, asm or drw)

the "name" that pro-e assigns is associated with the "number" of pdmlink and corresponds to the main reference parameter for the identification of the file itself.

the "common name" of pro-e corresponds to the "name" of pdmlink and you can use it to put a quick description useful for searches, orders etc.

Finally, even if not inherent in pro-e,

the "filename" parameter of pdmlink does not exist in pro-and so we set it to take the value of "number".
