import stp files and edit it

I created the commercial folder, on inventor I created new single user project, I renamed it "commercial" and as a folder I assigned it the commercial folder before created. so doing in the commercial folder I find the commercial file.ipj. at this point in inventor I always work with the "commercial" project created. now in the commercial folder I would like to create a subfolder system with the names of the various supply companies that in turn contain folders with the various models of pieces provided. if for example in the commercial folder you want to insert two folders (please note them to and b) which contain respectively the subfolders a1,a2 and b1,b2 in which then I will go to save the .ipt files of the pieces as I have to proceed? I simply create in the commercial folder folders a and b and subfolders a1,a2,b1,b2 and then start to create with inventor the .ipt files of the various pieces that I will go to save from time to time in a1,a2,b1,b2?

But wouldn't you want to do it again as a native part of inventor?
Given the simplicity of the piece (a revolution with some fines, I don't think it takes more than 15 min including the relief of the measurements from .stp) you would have a freely editable part and especially with the correct measures (how many times I downloaded models of producers with the tithes packed...). perhaps with the indications of the threads, attacks and what else can be useful during use.
above all talking about libraries that will be reused several times.. .
without considering that being parametric, it could be easier to get models for valves of other dimensions.
It is obvious that for more messed up pieces having a model to import is faster (and this discussion is great to clarify the ways), but you have to know how to choose the most convenient way to the fututro. .

I agree.
The problem is that we're all a little pelandron (I first) and, to save time before, we'll throw away after just because of decimals or crooked plans coming from models made with feet.
Says one who fought with constraints that didn't want to know how to mate on components downloaded from suppliers sites.
on the web there are perfect and others that are really worthwhile and, if you do not notice immediately, they are pains.

Now I've tried to do the whole process again. I came to get the ipt file of the valve that I saved in one of the subfolders of commercials (all the process to pass from the stp file to the ipt file I did it working in inventor in the "commercial" project). At this point I tried to create in inventor a new project that I called "plant", I opened a new iam file and tried to use the place component function to place the valve but a window appears with writing: "the location of the selected file is not the active project to ensure that the file can be found when you open files that reference it, add the location to the project or move the file to a location specified in the project" clicking on ok then the valve inserts it but I don't understand why it tells me this

now I tried again to reinsert the valve in the iam file of the project "system" and no longer inserts it telling me that "the selected assembly contains one or more subassemblies . two to the possibility of cyclic dependencies the requested operation is not supported". And yet the connection I interrupted when I used the derived component command, and then 10 minutes ago I put the valve in. boh.

stefano, I tried to solve the problem but without results. I created the various pieces of the library and saved them working with the project "commercial"; at this point I tried to define a new project (let's call it for simplicity "system") and working in this project I opened a new axieme file to try to use the pieces of the library (which I created working in the "commercial" project). when I use the place component function to insert one of the pieces of my library starts the warning "the file into which you are placing this component has not been saved. this may cause problems in resolving links between the files", then save the file d'assieme and try to place the component but part the second warning "the location of the selectd file is not in the active project. to ensure that the file can be found when you open files that refernce it, add the location to the project or move the file to a location specified in the project". by clicking on ok the piece inserts me but if I go out and try to get back in the iam file can not open it because there are unresolved links. Does anyone have any advice to give me to solve this problem?

maybe I solved, I simply added to the project "plant" as a new library that I created (that created working in "commercials")
