each cm (command module) had a set of thrusters (small rockets, in practice) used to change the arrangement along the cross axis (beaching) and along the longitudinal axis (roll). these provided to give the capsule the correct order before and during the return phase. initially, still out of the atmosphere and therefore in the absence of aerodynamic forces, the thermal shield was oriented towards the sense of advancement with jets preposed to the control of the beaking. the spherical/conic shape of the capsule and the center of gravity slightly disassembled with respect to the axis of the capsule symmetry guaranteed during the return (in the presence of the aerodynamic force) a stabilizing moment and a non-nuclear portance/resistance ratio, editable through the roll control jets. the latter therefore allowed to vary the projection of the centerpiece on the vertical plane and therefore to vary the portance/resistance ratio of the cm ensuring a certain control of the trajectory. this consisted of a first phase of descent, a recovery of altitude necessary to reduce the thermal stresses on the shield and control the capsule (as mentioned above) so as to arrive exactly in the chosen location, a second phase of descent followed then by the opening of the parachutes, which nevertheless happened quite lower.

Why are you talking about portanza? the cm in return behaves more or less than a rock (meteorite) in fall,
it only serves to maintain the angle of rentro taste (about 7°) and so much resistance to lose speed.
The thermal shield acts as aerodynamic brake (that is because it is not tapered) and an enrgia heat sink.
the aerodynamics comes into play at lower odds where the cm was content to simply fall.
maneuvering rockets were constantly used to keep the capsule in place and were commanded by inertial platforms.

that, then, talking about "nothing" is mathematically correct, it seems difficult to me, I guess it meant "equal to 1".
