I write to ask you if there is a way, in part, to do something similar to what happens in "structures" in assembly environment.

I would need to create a sketch representing the axis of the piece, and then connect to the sketch a particular section. (extruded profile or commercial profile type ipe, hea etc. ) I would like to have the opportunity to change type of section while keeping the work done on the reference plans.

I tried to do "part copy" of the sketch only and then to make a glimpse along the axes, but the method does not work.

I also tried to copy part of the original section file and then move faces. the method works but I do not like the starting length is dictated by the length of the "father" file, I would like to be able to leave only from its section or sketch.

Any idea?

I didn't understand very well, would you like to have a sketch to use as a path and another sketch to use as a section to extrude, and be able to replace this second sketch as if it were a library of features?

Maybe I'm wrong with some settings, but if I generate a frame in ipe120 and save the various components (which are body features), these individual files do not automatically update. if in structures change the profile type from ipe120 to heb140 the file saved as part does not update.
Moreover: the file part is saved with the reference planes that coincide with the reference plans of the structure (I would like to have the baricentric reference plans or, however, in remarkable points of the section), the processing is always referred to the assemblies and not to the single part.

to make it short, the structure tool is very powerful, but to do what I need is not the right method. I generally use it to make maximum presizes, but then I create and save the individual .par files "by hand".

I work this way, which then is what happens to me in production:
- the structure has its own code and design
- the profile used in the structure has a unique code as I buy it at meters
- the drawing of the structure shows the table with the profiles used and relative length
- the work done on the individual profiles is represented in the design of the structure possibly with a detail or a dedicated page.

if you have to codify the individual profiles of the structure and keep them "published" you should realize them with a "part copy" so as to keep them connected; It is still a very long job to do.

Your workflow is clear to me, in the past I used it too, but I see it usable only in case all the work is done internally.

At the moment the part of mechanical processing I make it to a supplier (who wants individual 3d and 2d files) and assembly work to another supplier. I am therefore in the need to have both individual files and drawings together.

your problem is related to the fact that you codify each piece of structure and not the raw material. Unfortunately the structures are not suitable for this type of work methodology, therefore the only way to produce how much you want is to manage the assembling in a "standard" way or at most with the multi-body modeling in part, but a function that does what you ask does not exist in itself.
at most you should check if working with the structures and using custom properties of occurrence you can correctly manage the properties of the structure element code.... but it is to be evaluated well.
