I strongly disagree using automatic update if welded are used in large assemblies, for performance are heavily penalized and keeping the updated folder manually is simple.

It is not true, the separate cut includes all the bodies, even if you do two equal extrusions and then change one, making for example a hole, the distinct consider them as different bodies.
the difference between structural elements and it is not the data of the cutting distinction of the first are compiled automatically (depending on what the profile of the specific structural element contains).
