What hardware do you have? (Do you have a ssd) tried to see access to the disk? Have you tried with currency performance? It seems normal to me that if the hardware takes 0.05 sec per hole if you want to represent 10000 holes it takes 50 sec. you could try to make half the sheet and then mirror it, the mirror should be lighter but it is to check.
