I did not understand why you work with surfaces instead of solids.
with solids you can model the flattened shape, then design n° sketches for n° folds and use the function of folding sheet with sketches.
It goes as if an object like that doesn't model it in an hour and, depending on the control you want to have geometry, maybe even in half a day
the core of the matter lies in the control of geometry, my boss wants to see geometry and change it according to the moons.. I actually worked with solids to define the shape. . loft, solid repetition following curves, but after some minor changes I had to arrange with 3d sketches (linked geometrically to solids) and creating surfaces... I eventually created more than 700 /800 surfaces one by one.
I use them because at the time of creating development or opto for that, or I should switch to a convert sheet that will never work.
with the function of "flatten surface" I can easily create a development and throw behind even all the edges in what becomes an exportable sketch in dxf with a click.
Then I always take the sketch I process it and I cut it with a water-cut machine.. and I'm also comfortable because I can "hold" those who are the edges and project them directly on my sketch by selecting them within the function (black lines in the image)
a sting
