Hello everyone, does anyone know a free pdm?
I look for something very simple for file management, a sort of code search and description nothing else.
thanks to all
Hi.
alessandro

Bye to all,
I regret this debate, even if a little dated by now.
small introduction: in the company we do not have a pdm at the moment, but with the smartworking of this period the management of cad files is blowing us up in the hands o_o .... and a pdm seems to me the best way.
we use two cad solidworks (historical cad in use for several years) + moneyedge st10 (a single license, taken by force of what to serve a very large cleinde)

someone has experience with openbom or grabcad? have you found problems, difficulties in implementing, advantages / disadvantages etc...?

for openbom business use is not free, but it is still available at a fraction of the price of other pdm (e.g. solidworks pdm)....grabcad instead seems free, or is it wrong?

thanks in advance to all

Hi.
If the question is to work in smart working maybe it's better to think about a cloud system. I with my employees use onedrive business and it works pretty well, at a total price contained (about 4€/month +iva per user). the only problem is that on the lock of files, which with solid edge we solved with the use of states (reserved, available, released, obsolete, etc.), but I don't know if solidworks has a similar function.
Other free systems such as google drive or dropbox also work well but do not allow you to sync data off the main folder.

Hi.
hi with a qnap nas, automatically synchronizes files to each save, on various connected pcs and when a file is opened, it automatically locks. I do this.
all free, except the nas obviously

Thanks information hunter. a cloud solution would love a lot....it would give a really spatial flexibility.
to better understand, files are on cloud and individual users work connected to onedrive, or work locally and then sync a database on onedrive, are file relationships always maintained? (most of my colleagues want to work locally because they say that then uploading files and assemblings from servers or via connection becomes slow... )
to have an idea of the work volume on onedrive, how many people are working at cad on the cloud? we are all 6 people in the technical office, of which 4 rotating make smartworking.
I'm driving solidworks, and I haven't found anything about an alternative to solid edge states.... .

do you have a drawing database or a simple folder structure? do users work on nas or locally? if they work locally, then they think about nas software to synchronize, or do you have other applications, and nas only does it as a physical support?

I'm sorry if I ask a lot of questions but I'm not very clever about file management....until last year I worked in a company with teamcenter that was the database for everything.

Thank you very much :)

qnap software think about everything.
In practice the nas does as a server, all the structure of folders with drawings, assemblies and all the documents we have are there, are replicated on the local computers, wanting also partially you choose what to synchronize, then everyone works locally not to hang the network. the first opening file creates lock and wins ahahah
for me it is a system that works very well with ridiculous spending compared to a server, it is also true that the management possibilities of a server are considerably higher, but also depends on what one needs at the end.
One thing, if you have a pdm or cmq software with network license managers, before buying the nas feel who provides you the software because if you have to install something external (compared with qnap software) on the nas may be problem, in the sense that some qnap nas have the possibility to create a virtual environment linux and/or windows at this point I don't know if the functionalities qnap work starting with environment.
I hope I've been able to make you understand what I meant, otherwise ask

Hi.
The process seems clear to me. the system looks smart and simple, at a first glance enough for our use. the automatic lock then looks really comfortable.
I would say that just a minimum of discipline for the structure of the folders and should work smoothly.. .
I am well informed about the real needs and the possibility of qnap products, our information material dealer has them in catalog, so I would say that it can give a little support....from when the smart working each makes backups of single pcs as they seem (pack andgo, copy paste, software that make the merge of the folders) and numerous files have duplicated o_o

thank you very much for the availability

When you want to ask
backup on single pc is the beginning of the end according to me.
for the setting of qnap is not complex but if there are those who support you avoid reading a bit of guides, because arm is a little bad. one who knows how to do it in 10 min. cmq make yourself a quote because there is also who you take advantage.

Hi.

on onedrive you have 1tb available for +1tb company for each user, in the basic version. the number of users is scalable very high, being a system studied for large companies.

files reside in the cloud and are replicated in real time on local pcs, with bidirectional automatic changes. in plain words, every change made by a user is immediately propagated to all others. the folder structure is replicated identical to each user.

I think it is similar to the qnap system, without having to buy a hardware but buying a service.

from what I read, yes, it's identical, you don't buy the hardware but you pay a service. free of charge there is nothing, it seems even right anyway

No excuse I meant to use the sync included in the qnap nas.
si synchronization is a function of the qnap nas via the qclient app installed on the various pcs each with its user and password. probably this function also has other nas brands but I don't know how to tell you
