cad freeware: does anyone recommend?

Bye to all,
I tried to search for a free cad on the net (of those to make generic technical design. e.g.: mechanical, architectural and related, but without too many pretenses).
I have seen that there are different, but I have no idea what might be a little more serious.
I certainly have no claim to find a clone complete with autocad and archicad put together, however, since there is to choose, if there is someone who knows a little about it and knows how to give me some tips on these software it would be better than to go completely nose.

It's just to draw a little hobby, so I'll settle for what I can find as a free cad. as system are on win xp.

jellyfish 4 or extracad 6 are the only ones I know free. medusa asks you to register and sends you a file with your activation code that lasts six months, but renewable: it is a promotional campaign! extracad 6 instead you found it in magazines type pc pro et similia.

o.k. There is only the embarrassment of choice. :

the first thing I look at in a cad is if it allows to create a polar series. If I don't find this function, or if I find it, but I encounter some problem in using it, it is immediately discarded.
with this criterion I have already discarded several.

Now I'm looking at progecad 2009, only that I found two versions. one is called smart and the other standard. At first glance, they look the same. Is there anyone who knows them and can tell me what's the difference?

2 cutting machines for modelling. .
I use my autocad and my flashcad laptop..
but in the lab I need something basic to start my boys moving in this field. .
I do not need very complex functions in my sector. .

I'm trying everyone I can find.
I've discarded a lot. I mention only a few:

medusa4: it could have been a good cad, but it does not have the polar series.
cycas: it doesn't really inspire me. I also felt a little ostic and I prefer to avoid.
progecad:
the standard can be downloaded, but it is only a trial, so it does not concern me.
the smart I tried it a bit, but I find myself in trouble with the settings I didn't even find where to change the black horror/scarafoneria.

Now it's the doublecad turn.
seemed so promising, but after a little (very little) the object snaps suddenly and inexplicably stopped working. I tried to disable them and rehabilitate them several times, to start a new design, but nothing to do doesn't want to know more about working.
sin. another cad to forget.

Apparently, there is no embarrassment of choice in the classic sense of expression.
It's just that these freeware cads are... :

if it can serve ... I use zwcad ... is free for a month and then remains usable under the 800k with the inconvenience of a written on the printed sheet that uses a version of preove.

if the purpose is to view .dwg files and work simple designs, I think it is a good alternative.

I have no news that keeping a time-limited currency version in PC is fraud... I accept denials

autodesk autosketch has never been free, I used it from version 1 for dos with a cga graphics card at 640x200 black and white resolution, arrived at version 10 and does amazing things .... to be a 2d with assonometric functions, but in Italy it is no longer imported from the times of windows 3.1 because you strongly want to sell autocad lt, from 1990 to 1995 with that gamecad I revolutionized the world of corporate furniture ...
